helping the ocean

There are many individuals and organizations that are trying to help the Ocean prosper. Many of these people/companies focus on certain issues that they feel strongly about. There are many non-profit organizations which are trying to connect with and influence the government to prevent harm to the ocean. Some are trying to expose the harm done to the ocean and marine life, like the Oceanic Preservation Society. Some are organizing beach clean-ups. Some are leading eco tourism, and others are creating protected areas.

One organization that I focused on is called 4Ocean. 4Ocean is an organization that focuses on helping the ocean’s plastic crisis that began in 2017. Their mission is to clean the ocean and coastlines while working to stop the inflow of plastic by changing consumption habits. So far, they have headquarters in Bali, Haiti, and Florida and are in the process of setting up more cleaning headquarters in coastlines all over the world. They sell recycled plastic materials from plastics they picked up, and they also sell bracelets. For each bracelet purchased, 4Ocean would clean one pound of trash out of the ocean. 4Ocean is also investing in technology which could potentially stop the inflow of plastic into the ocean and transform recovered ocean plastic into new and useful products.

Some major accomplishments of 4Ocean have included:

Removing 2.5 Million pounds of trash from the ocean and coastlines

Planted 277 mangroves in the Indian River Lagoon to create homes for baby sea animals

Raised $30,000 for the FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, which is researching the source of harmful algal blooms in Florida

Etc.

In the future, this organization will continue to help our oceans by investing in technology which could potentially stop the inflow of plastic into the ocean and transform recovered ocean plastic into new and useful products.
